The British Navy’s HMS Iron Duke has seized it’s largest cocaine bust on record, with assistance from a US Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachment (LEDET).

“This surpasses anything we’ve had and anything the Navy had previously,” said Commander Andrew Stacey of the HMS Iron Duke. “It is the largest drugs bust by value, and by volume in terms of cocaine.”

The BBC has video of the Brits taking the M/V Cristal under fire.

Uh Oh: IAEA Says Iran Can Make a Nuke

•September 17, 2009 • 1 Comment

So much for the Obama Administration’s scrapping of the European Missile Shield. The administration said today that they were shelving plans to put interceptor missiles in Poland and a Missile Defense radar in the Czech Republic. Now,

VIENNA (AP) – Experts at the world’s top atomic watchdog are in agreement that Tehran has the ability to make a nuclear bomb and is on the way to developing a missile system able to carry an atomic warhead, according to a secret report seen by The Associated Press.

So much for Iran not having the capability to develop a delivery system or “pose a threat.”

The document says Iran has “sufficient information” to build a bomb. It says Iran is likely to “overcome problems” on developing a delivery system.

Suck it, Hope n Change!

ACORN FAIL: San Diego!!

James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles’ undercover investigation of the corrupt culture of the community organizing group formerly known as ACORN hit San Diego. And, they hit it hard. As James says,

With 70 miles of stunning beaches and picture-perfect weather all year round, having fun during the summer in San Diego doesn’t require a lot of money.

The city combines old-fashioned Mexican charm with a modern edge. In a city where the sun is always shining, it’s the perfect place to get away for a bit of relaxation or stimulation.

If you’re looking for trendy boutique hotels, an exploding culinary scene, or visiting the local ACORN to get your underage prostitutes smuggled across the Mexican border, you’re in the right place.

After living near this city for several years, this comes as no surprise. Watch the videos:

NY Attorney General Andrew Cuomo Opens Investigation Into ACORN

•September 17, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Breaking: New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is launching an investigation into ACORN!! From the NY Post article:

State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo yesterday launched an investigation into pork-barrel grants given to ACORN by state lawmakers, as City Council Speaker Christine Quinn froze all city funding earmarked for the scandal-scared community-activism organization.

ACORN in New York has been pretty well taken care of by NY legislators.

The group and its affiliates have received at least $1.5 million in city and state legislative grants in the last four years, according to a Post review of grant records.

Council budgets from fiscal years 2010, 2009 and 2008 show members showered ACORN and its affiliates with at least $644,500.

ACORN and the tax-exempt affiliate featured in the video, New York ACORN Housing Company, have received at least $890,000 in pork from state lawmakers in the last four years

I may be able to return to New York after all…

Great: Obama Scraps Missile Defense Shield, Snubs Poland

•September 17, 2009 • 2 Comments

The Obama administration confirmed that the US Missile Defense Shield sites in Poland and the Czech Republic are being shelved. To say the least,

A spokeswoman at the Polish Ministry of Defense also said the program had been suspended.

“This is catastrophic for Poland,” said the spokeswoman, who declined to be named in line with ministry policy.

I’m getting pretty tired of this Administration constantly turning it’s back on Poland. Sounds like it’s getting close to the time to move back to the Homeland…

Vice President Joe Biden earlier refused to confirm to CNN that the George W. Bush-era plan was being shelved.

But he did explain the logic of doing so, saying Iran — a key concern for the United States — was not a threat.

“I think we are fully capable and secure dealing with any present or future potential Iranian threat,” he told CNN’s Chris Lawrence in Baghdad, where he is on a brief trip.

“The whole purpose of this exercise we are undertaking is to diminish the prospect of the Iranians destabilizing that region in the world. I am less concerned — much less concerned — about the Iranian potential. They have no potential at this moment, they have no capacity to launch a missile at the United States of America,” he said.

So, Poland and the Czech Republic can continue to live with the Russian Bear Bully next door, without a valid defense against hostile missiles. The rest of Europe should feel somewhat concerned as well, seeing how the missile shield was providing for the defense of all of Western Europe:

U.S. Missile Defense European Sites

U.S. Missile Defense European Sites

I suppose the only good news coming from this is that Russia might pull back some of the troops and missile systems it deployed along the Polish border (or threatened to do so), possibly reducing tensions in the region. However, I tend to be a little skeptical of Russian intentions with Medvedev serving primarily as a mouthpiece for Vladimir Putin, not known for being a negotiator.

The U.S. reversal is likely to please Russia, which had fiercely opposed the plans.

You don’t say…and now Obama is giving them a little more breathing room. And, he is putting Europe at risk from long-range missile systems already developed by Iran (nuclear or not, the US seems to forget that a weapon doesn’t have to be nuclear to be a Weapon of Mass Destruction/WMD).

FBI Fearful of Madrid-style Subway Bombings

•September 17, 2009 • Leave a Comment

NY Daily News reports that the FBI is fearful of bombings or other terror acts similar to the 2004 Madrid subway bombings.

The FBI’s elite Hostage Rescue Team arrived in New York in anticipation of the offensive to thwart a Denver-based terror cell with ties to Al Qaeda, police sources told the Daily News.

Another source said an earlier raid uncovered nine backpacks and cell phones, raising memories of the March 2004 bombings in Madrid.

If the HRT is called in, things aren’t in the “planning” or “observation” phase.
