ACORN Funding Voted Away by Senate

GOOD NEWS for a change! After attempting to swindle taxpayers out of another $6 million, the Senate voted (83-7!!) to cut off ACORN’s federal funding. Despite the organization’s name change to “Community Organizations International” (COI) in an effort to avoid what the group considers bad prior publicity, the Senate has finally done something that benefits every American. Regarding the name change, ACORN 8 representative Marcel Reid says:

“We’ve known for many months now that the name ACORN is going to be retired,” Reid said. “The name has been so damaged to the point where the leadership knows it simply can’t go on as it has with the ACORN label out front and center, especially after all of the reporting.”

I know skeptics and supporters of the welfare nanny state would argue that ACORN provides valuable services to the underprivileged (WTF does that term really even mean?), ACORN is a political organization with a thug’s reputation that provides services already provided by other Federal, state, and local entities. It’s time for this ACORN to be buried once and for all.
